Confirmed, Plausible, or Busted?

As you may or may not know--or care--I am a huge Mythbusters fan. Adam Savage is the unrivaled soul-mate to my inner five-year-old; Jamie Hyneman is the type-A personality that I love to watch, hate to work with, and want to be like. They've done more towards making science and building cool than Mr. Wizard and Bill Nye combined, and the show is hilarious.

But aside from the fun of blowing things up and building cannons for soda cans and frozen chickens, Mythbusters actually teaches. And I've learned. I've learned a few things from Adam, and I've learned a few things from Jamie.

So, without further ado, the Top Ten Things I've Learned From Mythbusters!

From the Hyneman:
5. Mustaches rule, especially big walrusy ones.

4. PVC piping and duct tape can build anything. Literally. They built a bridge and a boat out of duct tape.

3. When in doubt, build a cannon.

2. Shockwatch Stickers are the best and most accurate G-Force meters.

1. draw, plan, blueprint, then simplify.

From Adam:
5. Sacrifice your body for your art.

4. Be a pack rat; collect everything. You never know when it'll be useful.

3. Have a sense of humor about failure.

2. Ballistics gel is your best friend (and best human-flesh analog, outside of a dead pig.)

1. Eyebrows matter!

And in closing, just a few quick notes I've learned from both of them.

  • Be gleeful about mayhem

  • Explosions (the greater magnitude the better) are required.

  • Science can be fun!

  • DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME.
